Cycling the River Rhône is your guide to riding one of Europe’s great long‑distance routes — an 890km journey from the Swiss Alps all the way to the Mediterranean. Whether you’re new to multi‑day cycling or already hooked on big tours, this route is designed to be achievable, scenic and hugely rewarding, with most riders completing it in around two weeks.
The ride is broken into 20 relaxed stages, each between 24 and 65km, taking you through lakeside towns, vineyard country, historic cities and sun‑soaked river valleys. You’ll roll through Martigny, Montreux, Geneva, Lyon, Vienne, Valence, Montélimar, Avignon and Arles, following the waymarked Swiss R1 Rhône Route and the French ViaRhôna — together forming the EuroVelo 17.
Every stage includes 1:100,000 maps, elevation profiles and downloadable GPX files, plus detailed info on accommodation, food stops and facilities along the way. The route is best ridden between April and October, when the weather is kind and the Rhône is at its most beautiful.
From Alpine scenery to lavender fields, Roman cities to quiet riverside paths, this is a ride that blends adventure, culture and easy navigation — perfect for anyone dreaming of a long, memorable journey by bike.
