Discover a new, flexible way to explore Perthshire with this friendly guide to a trail you can walk, cycle or even paddle. Start at Loch Tay and choose your own adventure: walk 50 miles to Perth, cycle 65 miles to Dundee via Perth, or mix walking and cycling across the route. You can even use Scotland’s longest river as part of the journey by boat or kayak.

The trail shows off Perthshire’s grand scenery, famous trees, rich wildlife and welcoming villages. Both routes begin near the Scottish Crannog Centre, where Iron Age history and craft bring the landscape to life. Walkers follow forest tracks, old paths and a disused railway line, while cyclists ride smooth tarmac on NCN 7 and 77. Expect native woodlands, red squirrels, salmon in the Tay and one of the world’s rarest species—freshwater pearl mussels.

Most walkers complete the 50‑mile route in 5–6 days, while cyclists can ride the longer Loch Tay–Dundee route in 2–3 days. The trail can be broken into easy sections with plenty of places to stay, eat and explore along the way.

The guidebook includes:

  • Clear directions and concise background on history, wildlife and prehistory
  • Side‑trip suggestions to enrich your journey
  • Practical advice on accommodation, food and transport
  • Over 100 colour photos, custom mapping on 25 pages, and a durable perfect‑bound finish

It’s a beautifully illustrated, flexible guide for anyone wanting to experience Perthshire’s landscapes at their own pace.
