Jobst Brandt (1935–2015) was a pioneering California cyclist and engineer whose curiosity, toughness and sharp intellect helped shape modern cycling. Long before mountain bikes or gravel bikes existed, his legendary “Jobst rides” pushed riders — and their equipment — far beyond the limits of the era, exploring rugged backroads and high mountain passes few cyclists had ever attempted.
For nearly fifty summers, Brandt toured the Alps on lightweight gear, riding more than 2,000 miles each trip and documenting every journey with his camera.
