Almost a disaster

You might recognise this as a badly damaged handlebar end. Not so easy to see in the picture but it has lost just over a 1cm of metal at a 45 degree angle. Somewhat more damage than your average MTB crash. This incident nearly caused a major accident. At 70mph the tow bar mounted bike rack with two E-MTB's on board fell off of the car and hit the road. This wasn't the result of a poor installation but metal fatigue. I wont mention the car manufacturer but they have reported incidents of the tow bar  shearing  and detaching from the car. Bikes destroyed? Other than a similar gouge on the bike rack this was the only damage. No other vehicles involved.  Lucky day.
